What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is the art and science of adjusting misaligned joints of the body, especially of the spine, to promote health without the use of drugs or surgery. Chiropractic is based on the fact that nerves control all functions of the body from blinking your eyes to wiggling your toes. Every nerve impulse starts in the brain, travels down the spinal cord and out every part of your body via the spinal nerve roots. Your delicate, spinal cord is protected by the spine, which is made up of 23 movable bones called vertebrae.
Sometimes, through trauma, poor posture, or every day stress and tesion, the vertebrae to become misaligned or “subluxated”. The misaligned vertebrae can cause the nerves to become irritated and pinched. Since nerves are very sensitive, anywhere the pinched nerve travels, there will be pain and dysfunction. Chiropractors adjust the spine back into correct alignment, relieving tension, relaxing tight muscles and restoring motion while alleviating pain.
